In all honesty, I would say that in the past I've been pretty athletic. You know, the gymnast type. Not tiny, but not really fat either. Just fit. I was a cheerleader. Not the tiny one that needed a sandwich, the average sized one. And I've been pretty lucky, especially with the way I eat (taco bell 4 days a week for lunch is a good barometer of my food choices).
But in the last year or so, I think my metabolism just stopped working. Like it woke up one day and said, "I'M QUITTING!" The problem? It never turned in it's resignation. It never sent a memo saying, "Jillian, I think I have put in a great 28 years. I've loved your body like I would my own. I've let you eat whatever you want, when you wanted, without too much hassle, however, I'm getting older and I can't complete tasks as quickly or as frequently as you need. I'm a one women team here; I need help! And until your willing to step it up (aka working out and eating better), I'm outta here!"
Now, I could make excuses all day long for Metabolism's lack of notice. But the point is: I didn't get the memo. I've continued my love affair with Taco Bell, Hot Pockets, and Tostitos partnered with the ever so delicious Tostitos Queso Companion. I haven't batted an eye at the chocolate dipped Oreos my Grammy sends over or the large pizza I can scarf down at the Waldos pizza buffet (seriously, this is the best pizza in the city).
Anyway, this morning, I'm getting dressed for work and while I have noticed some of my pants getting tighter (dry cleaner issue, of course), I hadn't realized the extent of it--I only have 5 pairs of pants that fit. 5! In a closet full of pants. Pants from Ann Taylor, Limited, BeBe, Banana Republic, and oh, the jeans (I have a thing for jeans)! Now, you might ask yourself how do you go from pants getting 'tighter' to only fitting into 5? Well, let me tell you, it's simple really, skirts. Skirts are more forgiving. Skirts don't pull and squeeze. And since it's officially 15 degrees everyday in KC....I must switch back to pants.
So, I am here to announce that I will be on that elliptical everyday. Starting today, I will make it to that 24 Hour Fitness if it's the last thing I do!
Cause seriously, I can't afford all new clothes!

I've noticed a slow in my metabolism too. While I've always been what my family refers to as "stick skinny," maybe my metabolism slowing down is a good thing ;) Getting older sucks!
don't you wish you could trade it in for a new one? Heck, I'd settle for a 16 year old metabolism :)
