I finished.....

Well, since our last triathlon got cancelled and we had already signed up for the Olympic Distance in a few weeks we decided to register for one this weekend in Lawrence. Midwest Mayhem.

(I am so thankful I didn't travel 1000 miles to figure out I'm the world's slowest doggie paddler. I'm not sure if 'the worlds slowest doggie paddler' is a world record catergory or not but I might call Guiness to check.)

I have so many mixed feelings about the event and my performance.

(Not that any of that should matter...I mean, I finished my first triathlon. What else is there to discuss?)

Well let me tell you. I was slow. And by slow I mean I spent almost the entire race by myself. Not in the lead either. In the back. Or watching people cruise by me!

(We did the short course so the long course participants were lapping me)

Turns out swimming in the lake is nothing like I expected. I mean seriously? I've spent my entire life in the lake; wakeboarding, skiing, and tubing. My reaction to swimming in the lake sans life jacket? Panic. Pure unadulterated panic. Ridiculous. I doggie paddled the entire 500 meters! Only two other people still in the water when I got out....so I was waaaay behind when I got on my bike.

BF was crossing the finish line at the exact moment I was starting my run. So it was kinda nice I could be there to cheer for him when he finished. And then it took me 37 minutes to get through the 3.1 miles. BF was waiting for me and yelling and supporting me when I got close to the finish!

(Best BF in the world....)

In the end I beat one girl in my division. And 9 people in the entire event. So I suppose the day wasn't a complete loss....I mean I did finish after all!

What should be next on my list of smart decisions? Do a longer distance. Right?
