Half Marathon...New Meaning to the Word Sore

BF and I ran the KC Half Marathon over the weekend. And now, on Monday, I can still barely walk. I suppose our strenuous training regiment (weddings, cruises, sleeping, pizza, and queso dip) really help get us prepared!

Now, seeing as I hadn't EVER ran more than 10 miles; I was a little bit nervous. I knew I could get through it but I didn't know how great I would do. Well, I was pleasantly surprised at my half marathon skillz (yeah that's skills with a 'z'). I managed to keep up with the 2:30 pace group all the way to 9.5 miles. Then I started slowing down a little--that was about the time we climbed the big (well it might have been a little but at the time it felt huge)hill too. And at mile 10.5 I lingered a few extra moments in the aid station; Gatorade never tasted so good....a solid B+. Then thank goodness we had a long downhill and the last mile was flat! I managed to finish in 2:35:05. So, I was only a couple minutes behind Fiance! I was super proud of myself for running the whole way (except for the aid stations)!

When I was coming up on the finish line the first FULL marathon finisher passed us. Yeah, he ran 26.2 in the time it took me to finish 13.1. I can't imagine running that fast! I will be happy if I ever get down to 10 minute miles!

Finance beat his last half marathon time by several minutes so he was happy! And considering we 'trained' so strenuously for it; I think we was relieved he still managed to improve his time.

The half marathon was definitely a win in our book and as much as I hate to admit it; I'm kinda looking forward to the next one. We're going to do the Memphis half, Lincoln half and then the full in San Diego in June.

So, I better get to running a little more and eating pizza a little less :)
