Gobber Grind 5k 2010

Last weekend I ran the Gobbler Grind 5k with a couple good buddies.  Laurie was super excited to run these 3.1 miles in under 30 minutes.  I thought she was crazy but we were so close!  Jacqui actually did finish in under 30 minutes---I was kind of jealous and it made we want to do one more so I can finish under 30 minutes too.  But I think instead of running another 5k we all decided to run the Groundhog Run 10k at the end of January.  So, we will see if my excitement lasts that long!

Small confession: I have to say that of all the races I have raced this year the Gobber Grind was by far the most fun.  It might have been the fact that I actually RACED Steve M's daughter Claire to the finish and it made the final moments a lot more climatic than just pacing yourself to the finish...

Pilgrim Pacer 2010

I have taken quite a little break from racing.  (Of course I use the term 'racing' loosely as I mostly just run and finish when I finish.)   But Hubs and I ran the Pilgrim Pacer on Saturday at Unity Village.  We were both suppose to run the 10k but I totally changed to the 5k at the last minute.  ( I've been running a little over 3.5 miles pretty regularly with a Jacqui and I knew I could do it...I just didn't want to.)  I completed the 3.1 miles in 34 minutes which is a little bit faster than I normally run so I felt good about my PR and I'm sure if I had ran the whole 10k I would have ran it quite a bit slower.  Overall, I had a good time and like the idea of doing just one event.

Next weekend is our last race of the year---the Gobbler Grind at Corporate Woods.  I have several friends running the 5k with me so I'm really looking forward to  a fun morning of fitness, friends and lots of laughing.  Afterwards, we are gonna have a celebratory brunch at Hamburger Marys (we are celebrating Laurie receiving her very first finishers medal.  There was an unanticipated lack of medals at her first triathlon and she felt a little cheated...so now she will totally have a medal to show off :)

Then, we done racing til the spring!  Yay!

North Dakota, You Can Watch Your Dog Run Away For Days

Over the weekend Hubs and I went to Fargo, North Dakota.  Yep, North Dakota.  We went with Hubs’ Mom to visit aunts and uncles and friends.   It. Was. A. Long. Way.  And it was a super quick trip.  We left Friday night after work and arrived at 3am-ish.  I was super tired so we didn’t even really say hello to Sal when we walked in.  We went straight to bed.  And then slept til 1030.  When we got up we visited with Alda’s (Hubs’ mom) sisters and then we ate breakfast (eggs and hash browns) and immediately followed it with homemade chocolate cake and ice cream!  Hello North Dakota.

After ice cream Hubs and I headed to Grand Forks.  It’s a smaller town about an hour away.  Grand Forks is where Hubs grew up.  When he talks about this town he acts likes it’s the tiniest township in the world; turns out it’s just a smaller city.  (They have a Cabela’s and everything.)   Anyway, I got to meet Hubs’ high school friends and see the house where he grew up.  It was an overdue history lesson.  I also got to attend my very first hockey game at UND.  The Souix are pretty fun to watch and I even got me a fancy schmancy UND Soiux hoodie (even if I did whine about going in the first place.)

After the game we ate with some of Hubs friends and hit the hay (that’s how they talk in small towns, I think) and in the morning we headed ack to Fargo where we had more chocolate cake and ice cream and then started the long 10 hour drive home.  Hubs slept most of the way back and I talked with Alda almost the whole way.  I don’t know if she just had that much to talk about or she was just making sure I was still awake but I really enjoyed it.

I don’t really feel like we had a weekend with all the driving and visiting so I’m really looking forward to THIS coming weekend.  I’m going to clean up our house and finally get some laundry done.   Laundry = Lame.

On My Mind This Week

These last couple weeks have been a roller coaster of emotions and craziness.  It feels like every time I get a handle on one thing...another things needs attention.  I suppose that’s just life though.   So here are a few things that have been rolling around in my head the last week or so:

  • Work is still hit or miss.  I think I had a pretty decent October; however, somedays my phone barely rings.

  • My love affair with Fusion Fitness has taken a little bruising since the remodel (which produced monumental amounts of dust.) I'm super excited for the remodel to be complete and we can get back to taking our shoes off.

  • Which brings me to my next topic.  I cheated on Fusion with Crossroads Bootcamp and loved it.  Bootcamp is a closer drive as it’s on the way to/from work so I’m going to use the 12 session Groupon I bought and then make an informed decision as to stick with Fusion or switch to Bootcamp for a while....I can’t (aka refuse) to pay for both.

  • Hubs and I had a conversation (well really I talked and Hubs listened) that might have been better had under different circumstances (someone, I'm not pointing fingers here, might have had a little too much wine before said conversation) but the jest of it went like this:  be an active part of our little family (me and our puppies), do some chores once in a while or I’m keeping my townhouse to ensure I will have a place to live when I get tired of cleaning up after him---Sooooo.  Dramatic.  Well, now he’s being super helpful and present and while I love it; I also feel like I might have been a little hard on him...after all, he is my husband and I really didn’t mean to scare him into thinking if he didn’t get over his aversion to loading the dishwasher I was going to leave him.

  • (For any boys that read these posts, I apologize in advance)  Earlier this week I was on the receiving end of a Hysterosalpingogram and we found out that all my lady parts are working fine.  (You know, in the baby making department.)  The doctor assured us everything was good and that this particular test had a tendency to raise the likelihood of baby making 10-15 and in some cases 20%....so, with no blockages and a higher likelihood of the baby making stars aligning we have definitely been thinking about what life would be like with a little Bambino in our house.

  • Oh, and speaking of babies, I have been hoping for Baby Heide’s delivery this week but the little guy seems to be holding strong inside momma.  So we definitely have something exciting coming up in the next few days!  I cannot wait to meet this little guy!

Only one more day til the weekend. We have a pretty fun few days planned: bday party tomorrow night, game night Saturday, and a quiet Sunday home with Hubs watching football and eating pizza which I’m really looking forward to (the spending the day with Hubs part, not the eating pizza part although pizza is pretty darn yummy and a staple in our household.)

Doug Brown Memorial

Yesterday Hubs and I went to a memorial service for a good friend’s Dad.  I had never met her dad but I felt an overwhelming urge to do something for my friend.  So, I made some cookies.  (What do yo mean cookies don’t heal all?)  Her dad had been sick for several years and this news was not unexpected however, our family has been through a lot of loss in the last 10 years and no matter how “prepared” you are for the news...you are never really ready.  My girlfriend is holding it together on the outside but I can’t imagine how she must be feeling on the inside....especially since her little bambino is due next week.

The memorial was beautiful; complete with short eulogies by his sister, kids, and wife.  It was very touching and my heart continues to go out to my friend and her family.

Movies, Marathons, and Gambling

The last couple weekends have been super fun.  Two weekends ago we had date night with a couple of good friends of ours and it was so nice to hang out with them!  We went and ate Greek food, broke a couple plates (and by break plates I mean we threw them up in the air and then let them break all over the dance floor – so fun), and then enjoyed some interestingly flavored ice cream...lavender, rosemary, and goat cheese.  Yes, they were good but I'm a more traditional vanilla and chocolate kind of girl.  Although, the rosemary one tasted exactly like rosemary chicken so maybe I could justify eating ice cream for dinner if it tastes like actual food.

Then this past weekend, Hubs and I stayed pretty darn busy.  Friday night Hubs cooked dinner then we went to see the Social Network.  What a good movie.  Then on Saturday, Hubs ran the KC Marathon. I was supposed to run the half but bailed.  All my people backed out and let's be honest, running a half marathon alone is not really my idea of fun.  But I did have a good time cheering for him.  Little Lincoln and his parents came out and cheered for Hubs too so I think that made him feel pretty special.  Hefinished in a little over 5 hours so I was super proud of him AND the best part?  He wasn't all limping and whiny all day....which has somehow managed to turn into a little bit of a pet peeve (cause seriously, why run that far if it basically makes you so sore you can't move or do anything? Why not run a distance that allows for running and living life?)

Then on Saturday night we went to see Jeff Foxworthy with Mom and Dad.  We had fun.  We ate, laughed, and gambled.  Usually, gambling is not exactly on the top of my list (I would rather buy shoes with that money) but we had a good time and we'd probably go back again!

And Yesterday we FINALLY had the big AAKC picnic our committee has been planning for what feels like my entire life.  We were supposed to have this picnic months ago but it rained and the river flooded so we were unable to have it on our original date.  The weather was perfect and the turnout was pretty darn good!  So, now, it's time to finish our rapidly approaching Casino Night.  We are hosting that event here in the MC Flooring warehouse.  Hosting will be a nice way for all of our customers to see the warehouse and maybe a way to sway a few prospects our way as well.  So, this event needs to be a success for a multitude of reasons.

Next weekend is going to be alittle quieter.  We are judging a local cheer competition and taking it easier...cause we need a little break!

Family Friends and Relationships

Family.  Friends.  And relationships.  I’ve been thinking a lot about these labels recently.  More importantly when do you sever ties?  How many unreturned calls/texts can go by before you think someone could care less if they’re in your life.  How many declined invites finally add up to letting go?  How many pleas for attention does someone have to make before they make peace with the fact that a family member, spouse, or lifelong friend wouldn’t really notice if the effort ceased?

A girlfriend of mine recently cut a friend out of her life and while it broke her heart it was a long time coming.  Well, she didn’t actually “cut” this friend out of her life; her friend had already done that with sporadic replies and vaguely masked excuses as to why they never spent time together and my friend made the decision to stop caring (aka cut this friend out of her life)...it killed her to throw away such a long friendship.I was impressed with her strength.

And so I’ve been thinking about my relationships.  Just because someone is family doesn’t necessarily a best friend make.   Just because you’ve stayed friends with someone despite an impossible fremeny complex doesn’t mean that person is a good friend.   So, when do you make that decision?  Do you give them another chance?  An opportunity to show you that while they’ve basically ignored all invites, phone calls, and attempts to log time that they DO want to be in your life?  Sure people get busy.  And trust me, I’ve bailed on my fair share of plans, but at some point, you have to cut your losses and move on (which I’m certain a few friends have done with me a time or two.)  I’m not talking about the new mother kind of friendship abandonment either; I’m talking about the careless, indifferent kind of abandonment.

And what about sisters.  Sisters are supposed to be the keeper of secrets--- the one who knows you better than anyone—the first call in a crisis or moment of elation. But what if your sister has little to no interest in your life or sharing hers?  What if your sister had no interest in spending time with you or at times even makes you wonder if she even likes you?  Do you just throw up your arms and say oh, well or do you try to spend more time with her?  And when do you stop trying?

Every friendship is different and every family has it’s issues but when do you take yourself out of negative and unfulfilling equations and surround yourself with people that actually want to be there?  Friendships change and priorities shift but there are usually a few people in your life that will be there for the long haul.  The ones you can call and pick up exactly where you left off no matter how many hours or days or months go by.  But what do you do with the relationships that never pick up?  Or the friendships that are completely one sided?

I talk to my dad almost every day.  Some days he calls and others I call him.  And if we missed a day we are both calling the next.   If I stop calling, he notices.  And I have a lot of friendships that ebb and flow in the same give and take manor.  There is something comforting about knowing someone wants to talk to you too....but what do you do with the other ones?

How Long Has it Been?

It was brought to my attention today that I haven’t posted in a couple weeks…and in my defense I will say this:  my job is taking up more and more of my time everyday and that leaves less and less time for blogging (especially since when I’m not working I’m like busy doing other stuff.)

The lost weeks have been full of totally blog worthy events though….

  • We went to Branson with my family and spent an amazing day on Table Rock Lake.  I didn’t even get sunburned.  We ate and shopped and ate some more!  I always thoroughly enjoy family time…especially when we are out doing stuff.

  • Hubs’ longtime friend George came into town and stayed with us for the better part of the week.  He is so fun!  And he actually got Hubs and I out on a week night too (which doesn’t normally happen.)

  • I finished up my summer class.  I’m super confident I landed an A in that class---or a B

  • Tyson passed his doggie daycare interview with flying colors (so now he has a place to stay when we go places…AND it’s right by Hubs’ work!  So no more puppy shuffle for me!  Yay!

  • This last weekend Hubs and I went to Cincinnati for a dear friend’s wedding.  Time and life has taxed our long distance friendship but every time I see him it reminds me of super fun times and revives my initiative to make plans!  Did I mention how much I LOVE Robin?  I’m unbelievably happy for them!

  • And yesterday Hubs and I reserved a lot for the building of our dream house.  So we are super excited to get that project underway!

The rest of the week is full of work.  Measures, cold calls, AAKC meetings, and heat.  Have I mentioned how hot it is here?  Let’s just say when I got in my car this afternoon the temp gauge said 113.  So.  Hot.

Midwest Mayhem - 2010

So.  Midwest Mayhem.  Two words:  Unbearable Heat.

I started out strong.  And by strong I mean:  I was able to get my swim cap on without any help from Hubs.  (Laurie was standing there and I felt an overwhelming need to feel competent.)  We had about an hour from the time Hubs started until our heat so we discussed our ‘strategy’ (well, in all honesty Laurie was discussing her strategy and I mostly smiled and nodded):

Laurie:  Ok, now what do you think the best way to do this is?

Me:  What do you mean?

Laurie:  You know, what’s our plan?

Me:  My plan is simply don’t drowned and finish.

Laurie:  Ok, right, well, I think we should start at the front of the pack so we won’t be swimming OVER people…

Me:  (Looking at her)

Laurie:  I don’t like touching people so I think we should just swim in front

Me:  Ok.  You do that.  I’m going to start in the BACK so I don’t get swam OVER!

Laurie:  I think you’re underestimating your swimming skills…

Laurie finished her swim in 10 minutes and a few second.  I took significantly longer (although I don’t know my actual time since they mixed up Hubs’ and I timing chips.)  I’m calculating “significantly longer” on the amount of swimmers still in the water when I exited---ONE.

So after the swim I hurried walked over to transition, got my bike, shoes, helmet and headed out for the easy 12 mile bike (I’ve been biking 12 miles fairly easily for a few months now) when the tummy cramps started (flash back to Mexican food.)  Oh my.  I thought I was gonna die.  So, I stopped, sat down on the side of the road (don’t worry, it was totally safe…there was only one other bike behind me) and took a minute or 5 (it’s hard to calculate actual minutes when your stomach felt like mine felt.)  Then, the fart heard round the world. (Hubs would have been proud.) I started to feel better so I hopped back on my bike and focused on catching up with Laurie (she was on my mountain bike so I thought I would be able to catch up to her pretty easily.)  I managed to catch her with a couple miles left and we pretty much finished the bike together (way more fun.)

Then it was time to run.  The run was hot and I forgot to get a drink before we left transition so I was whining from the get-go.

Me:  I’m sooo thirsty.

Laurie:  Yeah, I know, but let’s just run for a little while.

Me:  Laurie, seriously, I need a drink.  I can only focus on getting water

Laurie:  Let’s just focus on running.  And then when we see water we can focus on getting the water.

Me:  You go ahead.  I’ll catch up.

At about that moment Hubs runs up behind us---with a bottle of water in his hand (have I mentioned how much I LOVE Hubs?)  He generously handed me the water and ran on.  (I’m still walking of course and Laurie decides to run on with Hubs.)  I was perfectly happy walking and sweating and trying to keep myself from getting heat stroke.  After the aid station, (1 water , and 2 Gatorades) I was feeling pretty good so I started running (slowly) my Garmin watch said I was running  16:45 miles…please, I was walking 17:30 so I basically gave it up and walked.  In true Jillian fashion I did manage to get it together to run the final 200 yards (you know, the 200 yards where all the spectators were sitting and yelling) so I didn’t look like a total loser as I crossed the finish line! Yay.

I’m not exactly sure how I stacked up to my times last year since they mixed up our timing chips and it looks like Hubs did the Olympic distance in the time it took me to do the Sprint and it looks like I did the Sprint in the time it took Hubs to do the Olympic…so hopefully we will have our times straightened out later today; otherwise, I'm going down in history as the last place finisher at Midwest Mayhem 2010....lame.

When I asked Laurie if she had fun she was a little hesitant to say yes and if you read this blog regularly you know I have a bittersweet relationship with triathlons myself......so, we are kind of talking about doing a relay on the next one.  Laurie would swim.  I would bike.  And her husband would run.  Win.  Win.  Win.

I will say this though:   With the abbreviated race schedule (we've pared it down a couple times) I'm enjoying the races that we ARE doing more.  Yes, they are hard and put me way outside my comfort zone but with only doing a few it makes it much less overwhelming.  We don’t have any other races until the end of August...so by then, I might have forgotten how badly I hurt today.....

Eclipse Recap

Tonight was full of giggling-- 4 girls, Hubs, margaritas, a hot vampire, an even hotter werewolf, AND assigned seating?  How can you not go wrong with that combination?

Favorite quotes of the night:

Hubs:  (talking to his neighbor while sitting down)  HI!  I’m DaShaun and I’m on Team Jacob!

I didn’t actually witness that declaration however, the entertainment had by all as Laurie recapped it for us was enjoyment enough.

And the second:

Hubs:  That was my favorite movie!

Me:  Really?  Your favorite movie?

Hubs:  I mean of the Twilight movies..

Me:  It sounded like you said Eclipse was your favorite movie….I’m just sayin.

Sidenote:  AMC is really on to something with assigned seating.  Purchase your tickets in advance (which by the way, I'm entirely too stupid to do--I needed Hubs), show up 5 mintues before the movie starts, and your seats are right there waiting for you....no rushing, no getting there an hour early, just walk in and enjoy!  We sat at On The Border til 655 and our movies started at 710.  It was perfect timing!  Way to go AMC--I'm sold!

Twilight Night: Eclipse

The night is finally here.  Eclipse!  Laurie, Lisa, Erin and of course Hubs (he cries when I see movies without him and as a viewer who has never read the books he is sitting on the edge of his seating waiting to see if Bella says yes to Edwards proposal!)

We're gonna meet for mexican food beforehand—a meal choice that does not fall in line with Operation 20lbs but hey, as long as a girl is satisfying her guilty pleasures (aka watching Twilight) I might as well go all out and eat cheese dip too!

My favorite part of the upcoming night?  Laurie is gonna wear her Team Edward t-shirt so tonight will inevitably be full of merciless mocking and lots of jokes.  (Actually, if I could have found one myself I might have joined her, but since I couldn’t she will be subjected to hours and hours of ridicule.  We LOVE Laurie!  And Team Edward!)

The Old Days

This weekend Hubs and I went out for a mean night on the town—we had to celebrate the sale of the Belton house!  I feel like I have been nagging him about that house for an entire year--we are both ecstatic that it’s finally gone.

So, in celebration we went out for a nice dinner and then “out” out.  We haven’t been out out in a long time…it turned into quite an interesting night.  I met tons of Hubs’ old friends (my favorite thing about meeting those particular ‘old’ friend is that when I asked how they knew him they would all started talking about the ‘old days’ which sort of made me giggle because if they know Hubs from the ‘old days’ then I know him for the ‘old old days’…the days BEFORE Kabal, before Jacqui, before Belton---you know, the days when the only thing in our wardrobes were cheerleading tshirts (regardless of the school they promoted) and the thought of wearing a sports bra in public wasn't scary at all--oh, and I still wore ribbons in my hair no matter where we were going.)  I know it sounds silly but when they asked how long we’ve known each other and I said 12 or 13 years they were all shocked as though they thought we had met and married last week.…that feeling might have been brought on  by a conversation that started, “wow, you guys got married quick!  I suppose that’s how he likes to do it!”  And then I hit him with the “we’ve known each other for 12 years,” and somehow in his mind the “quick marriage” turned all legit and he congratulated us defeatedly.   I did meet a lot of cool people too and hopefully we can incorporate more of Hubs' friends into our lives becuase really, we hang out with my people mostly--unless we're racing...

Anyway, now we are ready to find a house for US.  No more his place and my place but a new place we can turn into a home together!  And one day we will look back and say, “Do you remember the ‘old days’ of living in that townhome in Blue Springs?”

Coachella 2010 - Schmoopies Edition

So, every now and again I’m totally reminded why I love Hubs.  Sure he farts and snores and has a tendency to "megabytes working" but on our honeymoon/Coachella trip I fell in love with him all over again.  For soooooo many reasons!  These are just a few:

  1. The resort where we stayed was full of ducks.  We happened to meet and feed two ducks in particular…we’ll call them Vivien, her friends call her Viv (Don’t judge us!) and Duke.  They were obviously married and this other duck, Wally (yeah, we name the ducks, what of it?) was trying to get over to Viv; presumably to try and swoon her away from Duke.  But Duke wasn’t having any of it; he was chasing Wally off every time he came close.  It was fairly exciting.  When Team Blackout SW Chapter arrived, we told them all about the Viv/Duke/Wally saga and they totally tried to make fun of us but Hubs made it sound like the coolest thing in the world---It wasn’t that long ago Hubs would have thought ducks were totally lame too but Hubs LOVED the ducks as much as I did—although I speculate he might try to deny it….

  2. Hubs has always been great about leaving places when I’m ready to go---as JV said in his Best Man speech “when one of them says it’s time to go…we go!”   After several hours of catching up with Team Blackout I was kinda getting sleepy…you know, it must have been like 11 o’clock J  so Hubs looks over at me and we have some sort of conversation with our eyes about bed time.  He totally made a huge production of a yawn to announce we’re going to bed.  It was awesome and I didn’t have to be ‘the wife’ that ruined all the fun.  And then he farted…

  3. The first couple days of our honeymoon we spent tons of time at the pool and I got a little pink.  So, when it was time for Coachella I was sooo scared I was gonna be burnt and the rest of the festival would be a tortuous exercise proving I could still hang in the sun even after burnt. But Hubs took charge and kept me slathered in sunscreen every 30 minutes or so…and I didn’t get burnt at all.  Now, weather he was concerned about my sun exposure or was just happy to rub me down every few minutes I’ll never know but he didn’t complain when I asked for the SPF Chapstick out of his backpack 45x in 4 hours like I did during this post about him asking for stuff out of my purse.

  4. When we were on our cruise back in October we totally drank one afternoon and booze coupled with rocking boat was a bad combination for me so I totally whined and made Hubs missed the ONE dj he was pumped to see on the cruise..Bad Boy Bill.   I told him he could go but instead he stayed and cuddled me all night without one word of complaint (not even when “Horton Hears a Who” started over for the 3rd time.)  Well, during our little catch up when  TB (Team Blackout) one of them started talking about his girlfriend; he spent 30 minutes talking about how lame she was and about how many shows he missed and he wished he hadn’t taken her on the cruise at all!  It made me feel so good because while I know Hubs was definitely disappointed we missed Bad Boy Bill he would NEVER say anything like that about me….it made me feel very loved and lucky to have him in my life.

  5. If I ask Hubs which is more important cute or comfortable.  He will always say comfortable.  I think it’s because he knows I’m secretly asking if it’s ok to be comfortable instead of cute--then when I’m all dressed comfy he'll tell me I look cute everytime.

Hubs, I totally love you….even when I’m sick and crabby and miserable and have snot dripping out of my nose you are the one I want to be with, aren’t you lucky!

One Decision Can Change It All

Life is a funny thing.  When I think about all the decisions I've made in my life and how those decisions paved the way to where I am today it's an unimaginable story that  started with NCA All-American tryouts my freshman year in high school...

The decision to attend NCA cheer camp my senior year (not with my squad but with a girlfriend) because I was dead set on being an NCA All-American all 4 years of high school; my squad went to a United Spirit Association camp instead so I convinced my good buddy to attend NCA with me so I could fulfill the first of many crazy plans I would follow throughout my crazy cheerleading career is the decision that brought Hubs into my life the first time.  Of course he wasn't Hubs back then he was just some guy that was going to decide my fate as an All-American.  If Laurie and I hadn't attended that camp back in 97 I might never have met Hubs.  He never  would have helped us coordinate our standing back handsprings and I never would have been invited to tryout for NCA staff.  Hubs and I might have seen each other at college nationals but since we had never met we probably wouldn't have even spoke...

Even after that camp and the following summer teaching together, our paths crossed tons of times but somehow our lives and focuses were never really in the same place.  We saw each other at nationals and our friendship always picked up right where we left off but nothing ever came of it...In 2001 I even had an opportunity to cheer for Hubs at KU but chose a different path and headed to the beach.

The next 7 years were fairly quiet for Hubs and I.  I kept up on his life through mutual friends and it was Facebook that finally brought us back together.  It's amazing how one cheer camp or one Facebook message can actually change the course of your life.

Now, I get all the farts, cuddles, and workouts I can stand....I'm a lucky girl!

Rock the Parkway 10k: Post Race

The Rock the Parkway 10k was so much fun!  Laurie completely underestimated her 10k ability.  She totally out did me…Laurie runs fast.  She did great!  A little before the halfway point I started to lag behind a little.  I tried to keep up the best I could but Laurie was going strong!  I’m so proud  of her and I can’t wait to run the Lincoln Half Marathon together!  When we first arrived it was freezing!  I seriously thought my hands were gonna fall off as I was totally under dressed!  No hat, no gloves, one technical shirt and rain jacket (that totally fulfilled both its obligations— to keep me dry (mostly) and boost race morale!

Hubs ran the Half Marathon and PR’d (or set a personal record for those of you that aren’t up to speed on race lingo.)  He is really proud of his time and performance.  He ran with good buddy and mentor, Steve, and I think that helped keep him motivated.  As did Laurie, for me!

All in all, I would say the race was an overwhelming success!
